Kakadu National Park guide
How to plan Kakadu from Darwin, with the main rock art sites, wetlands, waterfalls, and realistic timing.

Kakadu is vast, seasonal, and culturally significant. It is not a quick add-on if you want to understand it properly. A two-day trip from Darwin is the minimum that feels worthwhile for most visitors.
Best places in Kakadu
- Ubirr rock art and sunset lookout
- Nourlangie rock art
- Yellow Water Billabong cruise
- Cahills Crossing
- Mamukala Wetlands
- Jim Jim Falls in season
- Bowali Visitor Centre
Best season
May to September is the easiest dry-season window. The wet season can be spectacular, but access changes often and some roads or waterfalls may be closed.
How many days?
One long day is possible but rushed. Two days is much better. Three or more days suits travellers who want wetlands, rock art, waterfalls, and slower driving.
