WikiCamps and apps
WikiCamps Australia guide
How to use WikiCamps properly, what to trust, and the best campervan apps to install before leaving town.
How to use WikiCamps well
WikiCamps is strongest when you read it like a live notebook, not a fixed map. Filter by free camps, toilets, showers, dump points, pets, mobile reception, and self-contained rules. Then read recent comments carefully. If three travellers mention fines, locked gates, roadworks, or a changed rule, believe them more than the old listing title.
Best campervan apps
Install WikiCamps, CamperMate, Google Maps offline areas, Organic Maps or Maps.me, FuelCheck for NSW, FuelWatch for WA, the My NRMA app, Emergency Plus, BOM Weather, Fires Near Me or the relevant state fire app, and park booking apps for the state you are visiting. For remote routes, download maps before leaving mobile coverage.
What WikiCamps does not solve
WikiCamps cannot guarantee legality, safety, weather, road conditions, or whether a site is full. Always read signs on arrival. Councils can change rules faster than apps update. If a place feels wrong, move on before dark.
App setup before a trip
Download offline maps, save your first week of camps, screenshot booking confirmations, add fuel stops, and mark dump points every few days. A little phone prep saves stress when reception disappears.
